Swimming with Weights
It’s been a while since I posted my training progress but I’ve been working hard this week. I took 2 days off last weekend due to weekend work, but jumped right back in on Monday.
Over the weekend I had an interesting conversation with Brian Mavi, one of the singers in a band I play in. Brian’s a greate singer, but he also is a personal trainer. I started talking to him about my triathlon sprint plans and my swimming struggles and he had a very interesting suggestion - swim with weights.
So I went out in search for ankle and wrist weights. Four stores later I finally found a set of 1.5 ankle and wrist weights at WalMart (probably the first time in a year since I had to walk into that place).
They were pretty light when I put them on at the pool, but the water quickly made them feel 3x’s heavier. I warmed up with 4 laps (no weights), then started swimming with the weights. I barely made 2 laps. Final result:
4 x 25m
4 sets of 2 x 25m equaling a whopping 6 laps!
Total cost for 2 sets of weights: $22.00
