Setting the Pace

Today I tested myself - Swim, Bike, then Run.  I’ve never attempted this before and it was a very interesting challenge (actual stats below).

Today’s challenge: swim to complete exhaustion, rest for 5 minutes, bike to complete exhaustion, rest for 5 minutes, run to complete exhaustion.

I definitely have some hard work in the months ahead.  Maintaining the endurance to move from one exercise to the next was not as much an issue as completing each of the three stages (swim, bike, run).

I certainly anticipated some major issues with the swimming stage, but I failed to make one realization up until today.  As I started my first lap, I was hit with the reality that not only was I already getting tired as I approached the opposite wall, but that there would be no walls and I would have no way of stopping in the real race.  How naive I was.  There would be no walls and the river is deeper than I am tall.  I made it 3 laps and felt like I was going to pass out…

The other stages weren’t much more encouraging.  Here are the numbers for my first full race training test.

Swim

Distance: 3 laps! (75 yards, i think, or meters)

Time: I feel dizzy…

Bike

Distance: 7.5 miles

Time: 27:20

Run

Distance: 1.5 miles

Time: a pathetic 17:10 - wow! not sure about those treadmills at LA Fitness
