Mental Challenges

“What stands in the way becomes the way.” - Marcus Aurelius

I posted this quote earlier today before my training session with thoughts of swimming on my mind.  I had a great learning session at my gym a few days ago and have been anxious to get back and practice my newfound swimming techniques.

I must have been tired, because I made it 3 laps and completely ran out of energy… I pushed myself and ended up doing 14 laps of freestyle and 2 laps of leg drills.  It was ugly, though.  It took me longer than I could keep track (probably around 20 minutes).

I have found that the most challenging part of my training is the realization that if I get tired running or biking, I can slow down or even stop.  But if I get tired swimming, there is nowhere for me to stop and rest… This realization is what I need to face as I move forward in my training.

Run - 20minutes, 2 miles, treadmill

Bike - 10 minutes, 3 miles, stationary bike (I have yet to buy a bike…)

Swim - 20 minutes, 14 laps (350 yards), pool (15-60 break between most laps)
